June Reads

You guys, I read the most amazing book in June! Seriously, you need to read it.

Brown Girl Dreaming by Jacqueline Woodson: This book was such a pleasure to read! The prose of each chapter made me stop and really think about what I was reading and examine what the author was conveying in each chapter. Woodson did a fantastic job weaving together her story about growing up and becoming a writer using line breaks to emphasize (or not emphasize) certain thoughts and feelings. Honestly, I didn’t realize it was a memoir until I finished the book and noticed the main character’s name was the same as the author…whoops! Woodson did a fantastic job articulating her story in a concise, yet entertaining way so it was a quick read for me.

Take this book to the beach with you or on your next road trip! I read the whole thing on the drive to Colorado 😉 Happy summer reading, everyone!
